Stories behind the temple:
Lord Shiva, intrigued by Parvati's devotion, decided to test her resolve. He engulfed her in flames, but Parvati, undeterred, turned to her brother, Lord Vishnu, for help. Vishnu, moved by her plight, used the moon from Shiva's head to cool the flames and protect Parvati.
Not content with his initial test, Lord Shiva sent the river Ganga to disrupt Parvati's penance. However, Parvati, recognizing the divine connection between herself, Ganga, and Lord Shiva, convinced Ganga to cease her onslaught and allow her to continue her prayers undisturbed.
In her unwavering devotion, Parvati crafted a Shiva Lingam out of sand, symbolizing her desire to unite with Lord Shiva. Impressed by her dedication, Lord Shiva descended to Earth in human form and married Parvati, choosing to reside in the Lingam she had created. Thus, Lord Shiva came to be known as Ekambareswarar, the Lord of the Mango Tree.
Another version of the story tells of Parvati's defense of the Prithvi Lingam, made under the mango tree, against the overflowing Vegavathi river.
